Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici - who was hit with a 30-month ban by the Italian FA last week - is alleged to have paid over the odds to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta to solve a problem for Juventus

Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici, whose 30-month Italian FA ban is expected to be extended to the UK, is accused of overpaying for Atalanta midfielder Cristian Romero in order to solve a problem for Juventus.

Fabio Paratici was banned for his role in Juventus' financial irregularities.

After allegations that he overpaid for Cristian Romero, Paratici is under even more scrutiny.

Tottenham strongly refutes the notion that they overpaid for the center back.

Fabio Paratici's future at Tottenham is under scrutiny following allegations that he offered to pay exorbitant fees to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta in order to solve a problem for his former club Juventus.

The Italian FA banned Paratici for 30 months on Friday for his role in financial irregularities at Juve, where he worked for over a decade.

This penalty is expected to be extended to the United Kingdom, putting his position as managing director of Tottenham Hotspur in jeopardy.

Paratici is accused of offering to pay more than the going rate to sign defender Cristian Romero.

Details have emerged from conversations recorded by Italy's financial authorities during an investigation into Juve's accounts between Paratici and Luca Percassi, chief executive of Atalanta and son of the club's co-owner Antonio Percassi.

In the summer of 2021, Paratici arrived in north London, and one of his first signings was Romero from Atalanta, where he had spent the 2020-21 season on loan from Juventus.

The defender joined from Atalanta, where he had spent the previous season on loan from Juventus.

Atalanta made the loan permanent before selling the Argentina international to Tottenham five months later for a fee of £42.5 million last summer.

Tottenham will not comment on Paratici's suspension or future, but they will strongly refute the notion that they overpaid for Romero, 24, whom they expect to develop into a world-class central defender.

Meanwhile, Levy and manager Antonio Conte have agreed to postpone contract negotiations until the summer. The Italian's contract expires at the end of the season, but Spurs have the option to extend it for another year.

Conte wants to concentrate on results before making any decisions about his future.
