Harry Kane BREAKS Jimmy Greaves' Tottenham scoring record with a strike against Manchester City, his 267th goal for the club in all competitions.

Harry Kane's goal against Manchester City broke Jimmy Greaves' long-standing Tottenham goalscoring record. Kane now has 267 goals.

Jimmy Greaves had been the club's all-time leading scorer for more than 50 years.

With a goal against Manchester City, Harry Kane broke Jimmy Greaves' long-standing scoring record for Tottenham.

Tottenham forward Harry Kane scored his 267th goal for the club against City, breaking a record that had stood for more than 50 years.

Kane has 416 goals in 416 appearances, while Greaves has 266 in 379.

Kane opened the scoring against City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, equaling the legendary striker's record against Fulham last month.

Tottenham pressed high through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who picked the pocket of teenager Rico Lewis, who had been played into trouble by Rodri, while City dallied on the ball.

Hojbjerg managed to shift the ball to his better-placed teammate, who characteristically slotted past Ederson to give Tottenham the lead.

Kane appeared to be taken aback by the magnitude of the moment, wheeling away in wild celebration before pausing to compose himself and wave to family members in the crowd.

The strike, which also happened to be his 200th goal in the Premier League, was met with a rapturous reception from Tottenham fans, who all rose to acknowledge the forward's magnificent achievement.

Kane said of his record-breaking goal, 'It's hard to put into words. It was a magical moment, and I was desperate to do it with a win. I was desperate to win. It was all about keeping a clean sheet after we went ahead 1-0. 'To do it in front of my home fans is an experience I will never forget.' Especially at home in front of the crowd. There's been a lot of talk about it in recent weeks, and I've been wanting to get it done as soon as possible. It's a special feeling to do it in a big game against one of the best teams in the world.'

Kane went on to say how'special' it is to be named alongside legends like Greaves. 'Greaves is a complete hero, one of the best strikers to ever play the game,' he said. So even being in that company is a special feeling, and I'm sure his family will be watching and proud. Overall, a fantastic evening.'

Kane went on to discuss his desire to score 200 Premier League goals. 'It's a fantastic feeling,' he said. When I first started playing regularly 8-9 years ago, scoring 200 Premier League goals was not even on my radar. It's exciting to be there now, and I've got plenty of years left, so hopefully a few more.'

'It's incredible. I was desperate to make an impression when Tim Sherwood gave me my first start. To score and win that game was just the beginning of a lot of hard work with Mauricio and all the coaches, so it was a magical feeling.'

The strike moved him ahead of Jimmy Greaves - who had held the record since he departed in 1970

The strike propelled him past Jimmy Greaves, who had held the record since his departure in 1970.

Greaves' record had stood for more than 50 years, having left Tottenham for West Ham in 1970.

Tottenham acknowledged the moment by flashing a silhouette of Kane celebrating with the words 'Congratulations Harry' across the big screens.

The screens then read, 'Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur's all-time leading goalscorer.'

Some fans may see an irony in Kane achieving the feat against City, the club he almost joined in the summer of 2021 - with only Daniel Levy's obstinacy in the face of Pep Guardiola's desire to sign the England captain preventing the move.

Kane became only the third player in Premier League history to score 200 goals, joining Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer in the very elite club.

Despite the club's poor form this season, Kane's importance to Tottenham is highlighted by the fact that the goal was his 17th of the season.
