Jurgen Klopp was subjected to "pure torture" ahead of Liverpool's crucial Champions League last 16 match against Real Madrid.

JURGEN KLOPP revealed the "pure torture" of replaying last season's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

But Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping that his team can finally inflict some pain on Carlo Ancelotti's side in the last 16 on Tuesday at Anfield.

Liverpool is out for vengeance after losing 1-0 in Paris in May, and Klopp has been buoyed by back-to-back Premier League victories over Everton and Newcastle.

"I hadn't watched the final again until the weekend," he explained.

Then I realized why I hadn't watched it before — because it was pure torture.

"We played well and could have won the game."

And that is the key word: 'could.' They scored a decisive goal, while we did not.

"Real do not worry when other teams have a chance and they do not lose confidence. They are aware that their opportunity will come. They are a team from which we can learn. " But we've now had two victories. We can feel it and see it. It significantly improves the mood." It would have been different four weeks ago, but timing is everything in life.

"To advance, we must win two super games. To have a chance, we need to be at our best. " Real Madrid, on the other hand, has a better chance even if they don't play their best.

"That's what makes them unique."

Klopp is hoping for a raucous atmosphere at Anfield, knowing that his team may require all the assistance they can get.

"I can't wait for the game," he said.

Going to the Bernabeu will be difficult as well. But who knows? It's called the Champions League." One of the most important games in the world.

"It will be a top game and I'm happy we can play now. Anfield should be on their toes. I'm really happy for the fans, who saw us in better shape in the last couple of games and now have a little more to look forward to. "Let's go out again."

The main injury concern for Liverpool is striker Darwin Nunez, who suffered a shoulder injury against Newcastle.

He will almost certainly require a late fitness test, but he did train on Monday.

"We'll see how he handles the pain," Klopp said.

Los Blancos will be without two key midfield players due to illness: Aurelien Tchouameni and Toni Kroos.

Ferland Mendy, the left-back, was already out after missing the previous month with a thigh injury.

Real Madrid won 2-0 at tenth-place Osasuna over the weekend, thanks to goals from Federico Valverde and Marco Asensio.

Luka Modric was joined in midfield by former Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos and France star Eduardo Camavinga for that game.
