'You make me proud,' says Antonio Conte, calling Harry Kane from Italy to congratulate him on becoming Tottenham's all-time leading scorer following his winner against Manchester City, as the Spurs manager recovers from surgery.

With his 267th goal, Harry Kane became Tottenham's all-time leading scorer.

Antonio Conte called Kane to congratulate him on his historic strike.

Conte missed Tottenham's 1-0 win over Manchester City due to surgery.

Following Tottenham's 1-0 win over Manchester City, Antonio Conte called Harry Kane to congratulate him on becoming the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

Tottenham's head coach was unable to attend the game due to gallbladder surgery in Italy, so assistant coach Cristian Stellini oversaw the victory in his absence.

Kane's first-half goal gave him 267 goals for Spurs, breaking the record held by the late Jimmy Greaves.

Conte quickly added his congratulations from afar, with a video from the locker room showing Kane receiving a call from his manager.

Kane had been congratulated by his team-mates following the narrow 1-0 home win

Following the 1-0 home victory, Kane was congratulated by his teammates.

'You make me proud,' Conte was heard saying, as the Spurs head coach confirmed he was fine after Kane asked about his recovery from surgery on Wednesday.

Conte later congratulated his team on Instagram, with the result putting Spurs one point behind fourth-placed Newcastle in the Premier League.

Conte wrote, 'Always with You, even from afar. 'I'm proud of the entire team.'

The post-match spotlight was on Kane, who became only the third player in Premier League history to reach 200 goals.

Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney are the only other players to have accomplished this feat.

Jamie Carragher suggested on Sky Sports that Kane's goalscoring exploits for club and country will be central to his legacy, with the star currently 60 goals behind Shearer's Premier League record and one short of England's all-time record.

'He is a player who will be remembered for a very long time because of that record, Premier League record if he gets there, and England record,' Carragher said. 'He'd want trophies to go with it, but there's something really special about a player being that man for that club.' Kane comes to mind, and he's wearing that shirt.

'Do you think he'd trade being the greatest Tottenham player of all time, the England record goalscorer, the Premier League record goalscorer, for an FA Cup or a Carabao Cup medal? I don't believe he would.'

Jamie Carragher suggested Kane's goalscoring exploits would be the England captain's legacy

Kane's goal-scoring exploits, according to Jamie Carragher, will be the England captain's legacy.

Graeme Souness agreed with Carragher that Kane's goalscoring exploits place him among England's greatest ever forwards.

However, the pundit suggested Kane might have regrets if his career ended without a Premier League or Champions League title.

'There are only two positions on the field where it's black and white: you play so many games and score so many goals, or you're a goalkeeper and concede so many.

'Stats will determine how his legacy is viewed; for me, he's already up there with the best. Shearer was the best English striker in my opinion. Even if Harry passes it, I may still believe that.' He would miss the Champions League and the Premier League. When he looks back on his career and sees players who were never in his league winning trophies, he thinks, maybe I should have done it. Perhaps I should have relocated.'
