Following a terrible error by Real Madrid's goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, Mohamed Salah was gifted a record-breaking goal.

On Tuesday, Mohamed Salah scored a record-breaking goal after Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made an error.

Nunez had scored an audacious first goal.

Courtois was unable to control Carvajal's backpass.

Salah has now become Liverpool's top European scorer.

Despite being given plenty of space, the Belgian shot stopper was unable to control a back pass from Dani Carvajal. The ball bounced off Courtois' knee and into the path of the onrushing Salah, who was alert to the danger and scored from close range to become Liverpool's all-time leading European goalscorer.

Salah now has 42 goals in European competitions, surpassing Steven Gerrard as the Reds' top scorer on the continent. Within the first four minutes, the Egyptian added to Darwin Nunez's delicious flick. However, Real Madrid responded quickly with a fine strike from Vinicius Junior before Alisson made his own horrific error - a back pass that ended up ballooning in off the Brazilian forward for his second goal.

There is no respite in either team's hectic schedule, as Madrid hosts local rivals Atletico Madrid and Liverpool visits Crystal Palace, with both teams in action in their respective leagues on Saturday.
