The Premier League refereeing standard is'very bad,' according to Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi, who was shown a red card following his side's defeat on Saturday.

After a 1-0 loss to Fulham, the Italian's frustration erupted, and he confronted referee Darren England in the tunnel.

Brighton, who dominated the game, had two goals disallowed for offside, dropping them to seventh place behind Fulham.

After his team's goal was incorrectly ruled out by VAR last weekend, De Zerbi met with Professional Game Match Officials Limited chief Howard Webb in midweek for a face-to-face meeting.

He explained his altercation with England and stated that he would not meet Webb again.

"Because I told the referee that we had a meeting with his boss (Howard Webb) this week, and I lost time and time again in my work and my job because I think the level of refereeing in the Premier League is very bad," De Zerbi told reporters on Saturday.

"In order to progress, we must adopt a different mindset. Today's referee had a bad attitude. But it's not a problem; I didn't say anything hurtful, but I did express my opinion.

"It was the last meeting I'd ever have."

Brighton's first defeat in six league games ended their chances of qualifying for Europe.

"I'm not upset because we had a great game. This is our path, and we must stick to it "He stated.

"I'm not upset, but this is my opinion about the referee. When I talk about referees, I'm talking about their attitude. In his demeanor, he was ambiguous."
